Gunmen Invade Police Station, Kill DPO, Three Others



Suspected gunmen on Monday invaded a police station in Agudama Ekpetiama community in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State during the early hours, killing four police officers and leaving two others seriously injured.
The officers that were killed include the Divisional Police Officer, a pregnant policewoman and two other officers who were on duty.
A visit to the invaded police station by Channels Television revealed that the gunmen carted away rifles, ammunition and police uniforms from the station in an operation that is alleged to have lasted for close to one hour.
Speaking on the ugly event, the commissioner for youth in Bayelsa State Udengs Eradiri who hails from the community described the incident as sad and unfortunate.
Eradiri who said he was devastated by the event, said he thinks the attack was premeditated, adding that the youths were alert at the time but were not well equipped to engage the gunmen.
He said if there are qualitative policies from the top to the state, to the local government, then issues of this nature will be tackled promptly.
Exodus Ebisadofa an indigene of the community while condemning the incident called on the Federal Government to approve State Police as he believes it will curb heinous crimes such as these.
At the point of the assault, four police officers were killed while two others are still in critical condition at an undisclosed medical facility.
